Work Injuries
Did you know that Neck and Back Injuries account for more than 90% of the injuries
occurring at work? Who better to see for these specific type of injuries than a
Chiropractor?
Industrial Injuries result in injury to a worker, both physically and financially. Everyone
gains when an injured worker is safely back on the job.
It is important to receive proper care following an industrial injury, not only to stop the
pain, but to rehabilitate the affected area. Without proper care, it's more likely that an
industrial injury could later occur.
The doctor of chiropractic stresses maintaining the mechanical integrity of the spine.
Upon injury, the individual often alters the normal position or flexibility of the spinal
vertebrae. Chiropractic treatment is designed to restore normal alignment and thus
minimize pain and suffering. Gentle manipulative therapy or "adjustment" is often
effective in rapidly returning the injured person to a productive status.
The doctor of chiropractic can also provide guidance with advice designed to reduce
work-related injuries. The proper lifting procedures and the therapeutic stretching
exercises he can suggest may prove helpful in preventing future injuries.
Auto Accidents
Let's face it, nobody likes the disruptions and hassles involved with auto accidents, let
alone the discomfort and pain. As a specialist in treating car accident victims, I know that
the last thing you want is to take time out of your busier than ever schedule to get
checked out!
Of course, you can wait and hope you are okay. That's always your option. But it's also
the biggest risk you can take because any injuries you may have will start to heal
incorrectly leading to long days of headaches, neck pain, stiffness, and eventually
degenerative arthritis. These are all things that can be avoided. Recently, the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported a 10 MPH rear end collision is equal to
the occupant catching a 200 lbs. bag of cement dropped from a second story window!
Whiplash
What is whiplash?
Personal injury is a term often used to describe an injury most commonly caused by a
car accident. It may also include other types of injury such as a slip or fall. Whiplash is
most commonly associated with rear-end car collisions in which the heads of those in the
front car are suddenly snapped back and forth by the impact. It is more accurately called
cervical acceleration/deceleration (CAD) trauma or syndrome, which describes the rapid
movements that can injure the vertebrae of the neck and the muscles and ligaments that
support them.
Who suffers from whiplash?
Anyone can be subjected to whiplash, even in a low-force car crash at speeds as low as
5mph. But injuries associated with whiplash can also result from other mishaps in which
the head is pushed or jerked beyond its normal range of motion. Whiplash most
commonly causes serious and lingering neck pain, but there may also be back pain,
headaches and dizziness. Inasmuch as bruising of the brain can sometimes occur in auto
accidents and similarly severe causes of whiplash, some victims have experienced
blurred vision, ringing in the ears, nausea and numbness.
What can chiropractic do?
The sudden accident that caused the whiplash in the first place may fade into memory,
but the physical and psychological damage of whiplash can become chronic, eroding a
victim's quality of life. Chiropractic techniques and chiropractor's skills are particularly
well-suited to relieving the neck pain and other debilitating effects of whiplash because
they can
- restore movement lost after the accident
- overcome muscle weakness and enhance muscle tone
- speed recovery
- diminish chronic symptoms that can persist or recur over many years
Repeated and effective chiropractic adjustments have proved successful for many
thousands of patients. Chiropractic can, in many cases, significantly reduce patient's
distress and allow them to return to their normal activities rather than seeing themselves
as invalids -- as so many whiplash victims do long after their accident.
Danger Signs Indicating Need For A Chiropractic Examination
- Recurring headaches
- Pain and muscle tension in back of neck or between shoulders
- Stiffness or pain in lower back
- Loss of sleep
- Nervous tension-fatigue (nerve exhaustion)
- Numbness or pain in the arms, hands, legs or feet
- Muscle spasms or painful joints
- Dizziness or tiredness in morning
